In a remarkable tale of spontaneity and adventure, Indian national Nitika Mehta and her husband, Hardik Verma, made a bold decision to make Dubai their home. Arriving in May with just one-way tickets and packed bags, the couple had no concrete plans for accommodation but a clear vision of the life they wanted to build in the vibrant city.
The Unplanned Journey to Dubai
Nitika, 28, and Hardik, 29, hailed from Gurgaon, India. Hardik had secured a job as a high-frequency quant trader before their move, yet they had not finalized their living arrangements. Embracing the thrill of the unknown, they chose to stay in an Airbnb initially, allowing them to explore the city and its offerings.
“Our move to Dubai was a leap of faith,” Nitika shared. “We believed that the most daunting decisions often lead to remarkable experiences.”
A Dream Inspired by a Layover
Nitika’s fascination with Dubai began in 2019 during her first international layover as a flight attendant. Captivated by the city’s skyline and its unique ambiance, she felt a deep connection that would later guide their decision to settle there.
“Standing by Business Bay, I knew this city was special,” she recalled. “It felt like the universe was nudging us towards Dubai.”
The couple’s love for travel had always been a significant part of their relationship, having met on a social app and embarking on an impromptu trip to Thailand three days later. Their shared adventures across five countries eventually led them to Dubai, a city they had both envisioned living in.
Navigating a New Life in Dubai
Having left her role as a flight attendant, Nitika transitioned into a new career as a user-generated content creator. The move allowed her to embrace travel on her own terms, exploring the world as a local rather than a tourist.
“I loved my career in aviation for its human connections, but I wanted to experience travel differently,” she explained.
Experiencing the Essence of Dubai
Settling into life in Dubai, Nitika and Hardik were struck by the city’s seamless blend of modernity and tradition. From efficient government processes to everyday conveniences, they found Dubai to be a city that exceeded their expectations.
“The visa process was surprisingly straightforward, and the quality of life here is unparalleled,” Nitika remarked. “Even small things, like the pristine condition of cabs and the availability of delivery services, have transformed our daily routine.”
She also highlighted the city’s multicultural environment as a source of inspiration and connection. “Meeting people from diverse backgrounds has been enlightening. The community here is incredibly warm and welcoming,” she said.

As they settled into their new life, Nitika documented their journey on social media, receiving overwhelming support and inquiries from others considering similar moves.
