Dubai Police Intensify Efforts Against Illegal Activities During Eid
Dubai authorities are intensifying their campaign against illegal activities, particularly targeting beggars and itinerant butchers who exploit festive occasions like Eid Al Adha. The Director of the Criminal Phenomena Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, emphasized the need for vigilance, citing the arrest of 50 individuals involved in such activities during last year’s celebrations.
Combating Begging: A Continuous Effort
The Dubai Police have long been committed to curbing negative societal phenomena, including the fraudulent tactics employed by beggars. Brigadier Al Shamsi highlighted the department’s strategic approach, which involves monitoring, developing, and executing plans to tackle these issues effectively. The ‘Fight Begging’ campaign, a collaborative effort with various partners, plays a central role in this endeavor.
This initiative aims to eradicate all forms of begging, from traditional methods in public spaces to more modern, digital solicitations. These include online requests for donations under false pretenses, such as funding mosque constructions abroad or assisting fabricated humanitarian cases. The campaign seeks to uphold the city’s civilized image and protect citizens from crimes associated with these activities.
Exploiting Generosity and Compassion
During religious occasions, beggars often take advantage of people’s increased generosity and compassion. Brigadier Al Shamsi warns the public about the manipulative tactics used, such as exploiting children or individuals with disabilities to garner sympathy. Such acts are not only unethical but illegal, with organized begging considered a criminal offense under local laws.
He urges the public to channel their charitable contributions through official organizations to ensure that aid reaches those truly in need. Established charities have the mechanisms to verify and distribute help appropriately, safeguarding against fraudulent claims.
The Threat of Itinerant Butchers
In addition to tackling begging, Dubai Police are focusing on unlicensed butchers who pose significant health risks. These itinerant workers often operate in unsanitary conditions, lacking the necessary hygiene standards crucial for public safety. Brigadier Al Shamsi warns that the tools used by these butchers are seldom cleaned adequately, further exacerbating health risks.
He emphasized the importance of relying on certified professionals for meat processing to avoid potential health hazards. The practice of itinerant butchers not only compromises hygiene but also flouts legal requirements designed to protect consumer health.
Encouraging Public Participation
To effectively combat these issues, public cooperation is essential. Brigadier Al Shamsi encourages residents to report any instances of begging or itinerant butchering through official channels. The Dubai Police have made it convenient for the public to report suspicious activities by calling the toll-free number (901) or using the ‘Police Eye’ service on their smartphone app. Additionally, electronic begging can be reported via the ‘E-crime’ platform.
With these measures in place, Dubai Police remain vigilant in their mission to maintain public order and safety during Eid Al Adha and beyond, ensuring that the city’s reputation as a safe and orderly place is preserved.
