Bahrain Condemns Iranian Attacks as Sovereignty Threat
The Kingdom of Bahrain has issued a strong rebuke in response to recent hostilities, accusing Iran of launching another wave of ballistic missile and drone assaults on its territory. Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement categorizing the attacks as a significant escalation and a deliberate violation of the nation’s sovereignty, endangering both citizens and residents.
Pattern of Aggression
Bahrain’s foreign ministry highlighted a disturbing pattern of aggression, citing previous condemnations of similar attacks. The ministry emphasized that these actions breach Iran’s international commitments, notably those outlined in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). The recurrence of such hostilities, the ministry warned, may lead to further deterioration of the regional situation.
Violation of International Agreements
The recent escalation also contradicts commitments made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, an accord advocating for a cessation of military operations and respect for the sovereignty of regional states. Bahrain’s ministry accused Iran of undermining regional stability and reneging on its pledges, placing full responsibility for the breach on Tehran.
Call for International Intervention
Bahrain has urged the United Nations Security Council to convene an urgent session to address the ongoing aggression. The kingdom is calling for decisive measures to ensure compliance with international resolutions, halt further hostilities, and hold accountable those responsible for the violations.
Regional Implications
The ministry underscored the broader implications of these attacks, pointing out that they not only target Bahrain but also pose a threat to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a whole. Under the GCC Joint Defence Agreement, any attack on one member state is considered an attack on all, thus intensifying the regional security concerns.
Commitment to Sovereignty
Despite the ongoing threats, Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to defending its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity in accordance with international law. The ministry warned that Iran would be held fully accountable for any further escalation resulting from continued hostilities.
The situation remains tense as Bahrain continues to call for international support to safeguard its national interests and uphold regional stability.
